Renault, Essentia, and Compañía Nacional de Chocolates: A Strategic Alliance Driving a Sustainable Future
Published March 2025

Renault-Sofasa has taken a bold step to strengthen Colombia’s automotive industry by launching production of the Renault Kwid at its Envigado plant in Antioquia. This strategic move aims to boost the nation’s industrial capabilities, create quality jobs, and position Colombia as a key automotive manufacturing hub in Latin America.

We are proud to contribute to this groundbreaking initiative through our strong research and innovation capabilities, particularly within our green economy focus area. As part of this collaboration, we have developed a cutting-edge biopolymer made from cocoa shells. This sustainable material is now being applied in the auto parts industry and will be used in the assembly of the Renault Kwid at the RENAULT-Sofasa facility.

By turning cocoa by-products into high-value materials, this innovation promotes circular economy practices and supports the transition toward greener, more responsible manufacturing—both in Colombia and across the region.

Through partnerships like this, we reaffirm our commitment to global innovation and sustainability.
